Anatomy of a Masked Profile

A Guide to making your Masked character's Profile!

"Page One" - Golden Sun Restored

NOTE: Your Masked profile can be created, posted, or hosted on any online platform that you can share through links. Google Docs, Tumblr, Your own blog/website, DeviantArt Journals, etc; as long as anyone who clicks the link can see it, it can work as your Masked's Profile! This is a guide on what each bit of information on your Masked's Profile is, and how to build your own Profile to join in the game!

Character Name

"Names are given. Titles are earned." - Old faerie saying

Names are very powerful things to the fae. Fae believe that names are sacred, eternal gifts, given from the moment that a fae begins life by their family or those who love them. Alternately, if they are alone, they may find their name themselves, giving word to their own innate soul and magic. Either way, the name is considered precious, unlike nicknames and Titles, which are earned. Their name is referred to as "their True Name," and follows the fae throughout the rest of their lives in Mundis and Alfheim.

Thus the use of Title's, which are earned according to their actions, good or ill or both, protect the true names of fae among those they do not know or trust. Once a fae's name is given, unlike a Title, it cannot be changed; so choose carefully! In addition, no two fae can have the same name. Their names may be similar or even off by a letter, yet the spellings cannot be exactly alike. Once a name is taken, it is claimed for all official Masked within the Masked Masterlist. Of course. your Masked is free to use nicknames or any other trickery it likes to conceal its name, but their True Name must be prominent on their Masked Profile for other players and for me to see. The name also cannot infringe on copyright law. NOTE: This does not apply to unofficial Masked that are made by those who are not participating in the official online community. Anyone is free to make a Masked and enjoy the stories and lore on their own terms, or to homebrew their own games and sets of rules. Everything that is official for TheGreenGame is considered canon within the growing world and community we are building, and therefore the sacred names rule is enforced among the fae characters of all within the official Masterlist.

Masked are often either given names by those who seal them, find their names themselves, or keep the name of their past lives, as a thread to link their new being to their original lives.

For more info on Names and Titles, read HERE!

Link to Masked Masterlist Entry & Masked #

Include an easy to find link to the official Masterlist Entry for your Masked. If you just created this profile and it hasn't been added to the official Masked Masterlist yet, then leave a space to add this link. This will enable any players or viewers of your page to trace your Masked back to its place on the Masterlist and it shows that they are considered official within TheGreenGame and can participate in online GreenGame events for points. Anyone is free to make a Masked character, but if you wish to have your Masked displayed on the Masterlist and to participate in this online community, then making your Masked official will allow for this. The way to get your own first Masked to design is by claiming a Mask from The Mask Shoppe to receive your own Masked MYO (Make Your Own) or by another player's Masked character gifting you a Mask Seal so that you can collaborate on the story of your Masked's creation! Either way, receiving your own Masked MYO is completely free to all and will never charge you money or services of any kind.

Include what your Masked's Reference Number is on the Masterlist. This is one of your Masked's unique identity within the Masterlist and makes them easy to find, and makes data organization and tracking easier for me, who runs the game!

Owner Name & Player Profile Link

Make sure to add your Player name as the person who owns the Masked, as well as a link to your Player Profile. If a Masked is shared by several players, then list each player's name and the corresponding links to their player profiles. If players choose to share a Masked, they are each considered to have equal ownership of that Masked. As always, players each earn NYX independently for performing green and regenerative actions, and by participating in building the shared world of TheGreenGame, and for shared Masked, all owners can choose to contribute NYX to the Masked in order to unlock magics and perform seals.

Masked can also be gifted to other players or traded for other Masked characters. However, they should not be sold for money or other valuable items, because all Masked are free to begin with. If a Masked is gifted or traded, the ownership transfer is permanent until gifted again. For more info on Gifting & Trading Masked Characters, read HERE!

Reference art

AND/OR

A Detailed physical description of the Masked

When you first create and design your Masked, you have a couple options for the method of your character creation:

1. Visual representation(s) or reference(s) of your Masked that shows clearly what their Mask looks like and what both their Masked Form and original form looked like before they were sealed. For your visual reference, you can utilize photographs as visual reference aids, commission an artist to create original art to represent your character, or create the original art yourself. There is no minimum accepted level for art, as long as your character's Mask and form is comprehensible, it is acceptable.

2. Written descriptions of your Masked are also perfectly acceptable and can be submitted as the only reference. Be sure to describe clearly what their Masked form looks like, how their Mask looks, what their original form looks like, the colors of their Mask and body. There is no minimum or maximum word count for this description, as long as those reading it can get an accurate idea as to your Masked's appearance.

3. A Combinaton of visual and written descriptions can also be used. For example, a photographic reference of the original form, a sea cucumber, along with a written description of the Masked form, or an art rendition of the Masked form and a detailed description of the Masked and photographs of the original form.

Level: ?

All Masked characters start at Level 1: Unhewn. State the current Level of your Masked within the courts of fae. Levels are gained through EXP. For a full breakdown on EXP and LVLs, read this Guide.

Your EXP Log is a Google Sheets customized for use in TheGreenGame to keep track of the EXP and Levels that your Masked character earns through their actions. Each time that your Masked character participates or builds upon the world of TheGreenGame, by having art or writing made of them or by participating in roleplay or events with other players, they earn EXP. This represents the wisdom, strength, power, and experiences your Masked gains in their journeys and travel through TheGreenGame. As you enter the data for the EXP you earn for each piece of art, writing, or RP your Masked participated in, the Google Sheets file will add up your total EXP and do the equation for you to calculate your Masked character's total EXP. You can then check the EXP and Level Guide linked below to determine what level your Masked is!

Download the EXP Log Template HERE by following Google Sheets link, then going to "File" and "Make a Copy."

Title:

This is the "Info" section for your Masked Character! These are all attributes you will decide about your character in order for them to be added to the Masterlist: except for their "Title", which will chosen by you and added once your Masked reaches Level 3: Wanderer. These determine a few key points about. For more info on Titles and Names, Read HERE

Court: Seelie / Unseelie

Your Masked's court is revealed the moment they are transformed through the color of their Mask, which is an insight into the type of magic that courses innately through their soul and body. Seelie Masked have bright, light, and vividly colored Masks, while Unseelie Masked have dark, muted, and dimly colored Masks. The coloring of the rest of their bodies are not bound by this rule, and there are a few bright-bodied Unseelie and dark Seelie, though fairly rare.

The court your fae is a member of determines far more than just the color of their Mask however. It can also provide an interesting insight into their character, affinities, and it determines what kind of magic they can learn to wield, as Seelie fae are the only ones that can awaken Blessings, and Unseelie are the only ones that can awaken Curses.

The fae that seals the Masked cannot choose or ever fully know what court the Masked will be a part of, though the very old, powerful fae have often gained a keen insight into which court a particular being of Mundis might fall, and may attempt to use their Seals carefully to gain more powerful Masked to join their own courts.

Original Form:

The original form of your Masked is what living being of Mundis they were before they were sealed and became fae. Your Masked will always be able to take their Mask off and resume the guise of this original form, though even when transformed, they will always be more, and will retain their magics and powers. They no longer age, but their original form may age, gain or lose weight, or become healthier or sicker in apearance in order to reflect the state of their magic and souls. Other Masked seem ageless despite their long years in both forms.

The original form of the Masked can never change. Once the species is determined, that is the form it takes forever. In addition, the Mask that seals them will be present in their original form as well, but not in the place in which it was sealed originally. For example, if their Mask was placed upon their face by the fae that sealed them, they will wear the Mask on their face in their Masked form, but might wear it upon their thigh, arm, back, trunk or any other place on their form. The Mask is always visible for all to see and magically cannot be hidden or stifled from view from any onlooker. When the Masked resumes their Masked form by putting their Mask onto the place where it was originally sealed, any clothing, jewelry, or adornments they are wearing that is not tempered with silver, a potent anti-magic metal, will be sealed by the Mask's magic into their original form until they resume it once more.

Sealed By:

This is the fae that performed the Masked Seal on your Masked. You can choose to use any NPC that is available to be used as a Sealer. The Seelie and Unseelie King and Queen perform many of these Seals, as they have more magic power than most fae and are always actively seekng to strengthen their courts, and the ranks of the fae in general, to keep the fae courts from crumbling into fraility and eventual extinction. There is info on each NPCs page to help you make this decision and figure out which character you would want to serve as the origin for your own Masked.

The other option is for you to choose to have your Seal be done by a player owned Masked character. Even if they are not yet of the level where they can perform Masked seals, they can still be your Masked's sealer, because sometimes lower leveled fae are capable of unexpected outbursts of magical power. If you choose this route, contact and get the permission to use the Player's Masked as a Sealer, and you can collaborate your backstory together!

Date Sealed:

This is the year in which your charcter's Mask was sealed. It can be any year from the beginning of living beings living on earth, to the present. Try to pick an exact year even in the case of extremely ancient years. The year has to make sense with your Masked's Original form and the materials their Mask is made from canonically; a Mask made out of repurposed plastic scraps cannot belong to an ancient sea dwelling mollusk. You have a great deal of freedom here, so go wild!

NOTE: The fae that Seals your Masked must have existed before the date in which your Masked was created. For example, if your Masked original form was a dinosaur, you can't have their creator be a Masked that was created from a hippy in the sixties. Masked cannot travel back in time, and can only perform seals on those whose existence they lived to see. HOWEVER, it is okay for the Masked performing the seal to open up and explore their backstory or revise things to allow room for the Seal to have taken place; for example, if the Seal needs to have taken place in the year of 1984, the Masked performing the seal can create an entire backstory with your Masked on what they were doing that year and how they performed the Masked Seal to create your character.

Favored Ecosystem:

This is the type of ecosystem that is favored by and most comfortable for your Masked character. It may be the ecosystem in which they lived as a creative of Mundis prior to their becoming fae, or it may be a place in which their new fae body is particularly adapted and skilled in navigating. When your Masked character is in this ecosystem type, no matter where they are in the world, they will have certain advantages and will be more skilled in navigating the terrain of that ecosystem.

Pick one ecosystem type, and be as specific as possible, both because it is more interesting, and because ecosystems in general can be extremely broad categories, and only become more clear with specificity. For example, instead of simply choosing "Desert" for your Masked Favored ecosystem, what type of Desert ecosystem do they prefer? A Rain shadow desert? Tropical Desert? Coastal Desert? Polar Desert? Provide specific details to flesh out your character and their preferences.

NOTE: You can choose to change your character's Favored Ecosystem whenever you unlock a Transmutation with NYX to change your Masked's fae form in any way, large or small.

Title:

Once your Masked gains enough EXP to reach Level 3: Wanderer, they will earn their Title. Unlike their name, which sticks with them forever, unchanging and linked irrevokably to their magic and being, a fae's Title is usually given or used by those around them to speak of them without knowing or giving away their true name, though sometimes especially fearless, brash, or foolish fae allow their true names to be included in their Titles. Other times, this is spread by their enemies out of malicious intent, to strip away the very protections the Title was traditionally supposed to offer.

The use of a Title in fae society often has a connotation of respect of some kind, even if it is derisive. The Title can be mocking, honoring, disparaging, or communicate fear, hatred, disgust, or awe. A fae can only hold claim to a single Title at a time, but when they hold it, it is theirs and cannot be used by other fae to avoid confusion. Usually Titles consist of multiple words or even entire phrases, though this isn't always the case. A Title can be revised or replaced over time with a new more fitting one as the fae gains levels and renown or notoriety. Choosing your Masked's Title carefully is a great way of considering what the fae say of your character, or else what your character has told others of themselves and is repeated. The fae love using wordplay to communicate something brief yet powerful about others and themselves.

MAGICS

Glamour:

Blessing/Curse:

Elemental Magic:

Companion Seals:

Masked Seals:

Fairy Ring: (Link to Location in Masked Google Maps)

This is the "Magics" section for your Masked Character! These are all the Magics that you have unlocked and Seals your Masked has performed using the NYX you gathered as a player through green and regenerative actions and by participating in TheGreenGame collaboratively.  For the full info and descritpion on NYX and all Magics, Read the Guide HERE.

Glamour:

Glamor magic is the subtle and powerful use of fae magics to create illusions. These illusions can trick both fae and creatures of Mundis, and can involve taste, smell, sight, hearing, and touch. For the full info on Glamour and how to unlock it, read the Guide on Nyx & Magics.

Blessing/Curse:

Blessings and Curses are powerful innate magics that awaken within fae without being learned, taught, or anticipated. In addition, each fae can only unlock one. Each fae has a unique Blessing or Curse, and no two are the same. Seelie fae learn Blessings, while Unseelie fae learn Curses. Blessings and Curses have 3 unlockable levels in which Masked can gain proficiency and understanding of their Blessing or Curse. Once the level becomes available through earning EXP, the player can use NYX they have gathered to unlock the magic for any of their owned characters. For the full info on Blessing & Curse Magics and how to unlock them, read the Guide on Nyx & Magics.

Elemental Magic:

Elemental magic is said to choose the fae, rather than the fae choosing it. It isn't learned, though once it has found its champion, it can be practiced and mastered through use, training, and discipline. Elemental magic is the magic of nature itself, and can be learned by any fae of any court. It is believed by many fae to be a gift from nature itself, bestowing its energies and magics upon those fae it sees fit. Whether this is the true explanation for Elemental Magic or not, is debated by academic and scholarly fae, though the old faerie stories depict it as a boon. It is one of the most unpredictable and unexplained magic types, for while most fae that gain a grasp of Elemental magic are very high leveled and powerful within their courts, there are stories of a few, very few Masked which manifest the beginnings of Elemental magic from the moment of their Sealing. For the full info on Elemental Magic and how to unlock it, read the Guide on Nyx & Magics.

Companion Seals:

Companion Seals are relatively simple Seals that seal and bind inanimate objects such as rocks, stones, metals, and sticks, and living beings such as plants, fungi, and animals, to the powerful sealing magic of the Masked's own Mask. This binding gives the companions that are Sealed in this way the same long life and magical resilience of the Masked. As long as the Masked that Sealed them lives, the Companions bound to them will also survive. They are similarly hurt whenever the Masked that bound them is hurt, and if their Mask shatters, it will cause them to have the same painful and debilitating effects until the Masked is healed. Companion Seals are weaker and draw their strength from the original seal of the Mask. They are performed using half-rings or unfinished rings of any kind, either natural or artificial; the shape is what matters. The half-ring is bound to the companion that the Masked is sealing and will remain there as long as the Mask Seal is present. The half-ring can be small and subtle or large and prominent on their forms. A Mask is symbolically a twisted, single ring looping on itself endlessly, symbolizing eternity, for a ring in and of itself signifies an endless cycle. Thus, all fae Sealing magic utilizes rings of various power as its medium, including Fairy Rings, which seal the planes and the land itself, connecting Mundis to Alfheim. The half-ring is incomplete, allowing it to be joined to the seal of the Mask and made whole.

Companions are sometimes Sealed willingly, others, forcibly. It is possible inanimate objects that are Companion Sealed have no awareness of their newly sealed state. Regardless, once the Companion is Sealed, it is linked irrevocably and irresistibly to the Masked, and can only be released when the Seal is dissolved or the Masked dies. If the Mask passes away without the Companions being destroyed as well, the Companions may remain for a while, living out the remainder of their natural lives if they are living, or existing until their forms are weathered away if inanimate.

Inanimate or non-moving companions can be made to be suspended or attached to the Masked's form using the power of the sealing bond. For example, stones or metals that the Masked sealed as Companions may float nearby their body, held and anchored by the gravity of the Mask's seal that holds them. Other Masked may wear or carry their inanimate companion seals, or "pet rocks" as they are lovingly called, upon their bodies or attached to their forms. For the full info on Companion Seals and how your Masked can seal Companions read the Guide on Nyx & Magics.

Mask Seals:

This is where you keep track of and list the names, numbers and Masterlist Links of any Mask Seals and Masked characters your Masked character has created. This will create a web of relations, collaboration, and shared stories throughout TheGreenGame as time goes on, and will let outside players know at a glance what characters and seals your Masked has created.

Every time a Masked performs a Mask Seal, the strain of the NYX required will cause their Mask to crack slighly, which results in a localized rending or wounding somewhere on their form. In this wounded place, a thick, quickly drying substance like tree sap to leak out and seal the wound. This is called Sealing Amber due to its similarities to tree amber, and it is a mark of the few powerful Masked capable of performing Mask Seals. The Sealing Amber might be small or large, and can be any color of the rainbow. Once it has dried, it is harder than diamond, and apparently unbreakable and irremovable, marking those who have performed Masked Seals for life. For the full info on Mask Seals and how your character can create other Masked characters, read the Guide on Nyx & Magics.

Fairy Ring: (Link to Location in Masked Google Maps)

Fairy Rings are one of the most difficult and closely Guarded magical secrets. Only fae that have reached level 8 and Ascended to become Royal fae within their court are given the knowledge needed to perform a Fairy Ring Seal, with the exception of those who hold a special Golden Mask and are taught the secret in order to perform it once even if they are not yet fae Royalty.

Fairy Rings are powerful seals that link and bind planes and the land itself, creating a portal between Alfheim and Mundis, and sealing the ever shifting and restless plane of Alfheim to the more stable plane of Mundis. This allows the Masked to build their own court, kingdom, or lair within the location of their Fairy Ring. Each Masked can only maintain 1 Fairy Ring at any given time, and if they create a new Fairy Ring, the old one is immediately destabilized and closed.

There is a Google Maps of all the currently existing Masked Fairy Rings. When you use NYX to seal your Fairy Ring, you will choose coordinates in which your Fairy Ring is located, and it will be placed for all within TheGreenGame to see, along with the name of your Masked's Fairy Ring and Court, and a link to your Masked Character.

For your Masked profile, simply Provide the Name of your Masked's Fairy Ring along with the coordinates and a link to the Masked Fairy Ring Google Maps. Feel free to also provide descriptions, photographs, or drawings of the court that your fae has built in Alfheim, just beyond the faery veil where the two planes connect.

Items:

Under Items, list or show any of the Items your Masked has earned from participating n events, completing quests, or from recognition within TheGreenGame. Unlike the Badges that Players earn, which are collectable and can be displayed in the Player Profile similarly to achievements, the Items that Masked are rewarded are canon and literally manifest within the game itself. Your Masked can choose to carry or use the items they earn or they can display them in their houses or personal collections. For the full list of Items and descriptions within TheGreenGame check out the Item List & Descriptions page.

Additional Info:

This is a place to add any additional info, backstory, references, or adventures you want to add to your Masked's profile! Be as creative as you want, and add as much or as little info as you want. You may create your characters with very known backstory initially and allow creativity to take you as it will, allowing them to grow naturally as they experience TheGreenGame. Or perhaps your characters always come with a large amount of thought and backstory right from the get go, and use that to launch you forward into further creatiity and growth; either way, this is your character, and their Profile, so have as much fun with them as you want! A few other ideas: you can add music to give your Masked a playlist, add the details and info of their role plays with other Masked, or create a detailed blog outside of their EXP Log showcasing the art and writing and adventures they have participated in.
