EXP

EXP = Experience Points earned by Masked characters. 

LEVELS: The Masked's Rank within their Court of fae. Raised by earning EXP.

 

     EXP can be earned multiple ways, such being depicted in art, roleplay, writing, etc. EXP is a representation of a character's growth due to their journeys and adventures with other Masked, fae, and characters within TheGreenGame. These experiences allow Masked to learn and grow, gaining Levels, which allow them to tap into more powerful magics and seals that they can learn or perform by using NYX. EXP and Levels are permanently attached to the Masked character that earned it, and cannot lost, spent, or traded.

 

     As a Masked gains EXP and Levels, they also gain ever higher ranking within the Court of fae that they are a part of. This affects their standing amongst other fae and Masked, and may affect the ways in which they are received and treated by other fae. Of course, the Masked's personality and the way they live and conduct themselves has a great effect upon the way they are viewed as well, regardless of Level and rank within the court.

     "Ascended" Masked are rare, with few gaining enough power to reach the level of fae Royalty. Those that do are usually treated with due respect by their Court. At this level, they gain the ability to create Fairy Ring seals that bind together the planes of Alfheim and Mundis to create a solid area of land. The Masked can use this sealed place to build their own castle, homestead, or royal lands, and create their own court to oversee as an extension of their Court's lands.

Lore, Magic, Seals & Power for each Level Gained within the Court

 

Lvl 1. Faebairn

Abilities / Magics Gained:

Fae Court: (Seelie or Unseelie)

Planeswalking Level 1: Character has little control of planeswalking magic and can only planeswalk to either Alfheim or Mundis once a day before resting.

Masked Shifting: A kind of shifting Magic that is possessed innately by the Masked as a part of their seal. When they put their Masks onto the place where it was sealed, they transform into their Masked or fae forms. When they remove their masks and place it elsewhere on their bodies, they transform into their original forms, or the form of what they were as a non-magical creature, plant, fungi, etc in Mundis. Non-moving entities can will their Mask to move around their forms to enable themselves to transform even when they have no arms or appendages to place their Mask.

Faerie Language: Can speak and write in Faerie Tongue and Faerie Runes (Usually, this language is gained immediately because it is a magical, innate language to the fae. This language is understood innately by animals, plants, and fungi, though as with all forms of communication, it depends on each being how receptive they are to it, and how willing to listen and respond. This language is usually comprehended and learned immediately upon completion of the Masked Seal, but some Masked may have their own personal hang-ups or disconnection with fae magic or languages that makes the gaining of this language slower, or they may simply be unwilling to speak.)

Fae Immortality: Masked do not age naturally with time and can theoretically live forever like all fae, provided they are not killed and do not die. Most do meet their ends within a few decades to several centuries through the dangers they meet both in Mundis and Alfheim, but there are many that are skilled at survival or staying out of trouble, and have seen ancient days.

Fae Resilience: Because their bodies and souls are bound and sealed by magic, Masked become sturdy and resilient, able to withstand far more damage and hardship than any non-magical creature of Mundis.

Sensitivity to Silver: Silver is a powerfully anti-magic material, resisting shifting magics especially—one of many reasons it is used to hunt powerful shifting fae such as werewolves and vampires. Pure silver will repel and burn a fae’s form by turning the magic within their bodies, but if diluted heavily by a skilled smith, it can be used by the fae to make mildly anti-magic artifacts that will not be sealed within a Masked’s Mask when it transforms and will persist on their bodies even when they shift. LORE NOTE: One of the only materials that a sealing Mask cannot be made from and cannot contain is silver. If a Mask containing silver, even trace amounts, were to be used to attempt a Mask seal, the seal would fail.

Weakness to Pollution: Masked share the fae weakness to pollution, environmental damage, and ecosystem destruction. Being in heavily polluted environments takes a great toll on them. Each Masked is unique and will experience this differently, but none are immune to this weakness, though certain Blessings may grant protection or aid against the effects specific pollutants. As a result of this, fae often find it difficult to ignore damage and pollution in the world and are driven to reverse and work against it.

Lvl 2. Commoner

Abilities / Magics Gained:

Abilities / Magics Available for Unlock with NYX:

Inanimate Companion Seal: Can be used on inanimate objects: stones, minerals, viruses, bones, non-silver metals, etc. Essentially makes a “pet rock” for the Masked that can be incorporated into their forms or carried around. Can also be suspended in the air to float above the Masked within their magic field, or moved around gently. Many Masked learn and practice their sealing magic by making inanimate companion seals. Some Masked become very attached to particularly beautiful stones or rocks they seal in this way, and may attach them to their forms using the same magnetic kind of binding magic that holds their Masks onto their forms.

Companion Seal Dispel: A minor seal dispel that dissolves companion seals. A way of dismissing the seal on a companion, living, dead, or inanimate. Cannot be used to dissolve Masked seals—only extremely forbidden magics, whispered about with dread among the Masked, or laughingly among ancient, malicious fae, are supposedly capable of that. Most believe that this is just a rumor designed by fae to scare the Masked into remembering their places; for a few see them as artificial interlopers, masquerading their false, "borrowed" fae powers.

 

Glamour Magic: Illusions, trickery, deceit, beauty; all of these are the realm of glamour magic. A subtle branch of fae magic, it is available early on, for any Common level fae can learn it, but only a few fae have ever been considered to have mastered it. Those who wield and unlock Glamour magic can trick the senses of other fae and creatures of Mundis to see, taste, smell, and feel what they wish to feel. Each Glamour unlocked with NYX must have a specific usage or effect, but with creative thought and clever application, the subtle strength of Glamour magics will shine.

Lvl 3. Wanderer

Abilities / Magics Gained:

1st Title: A Wanderer level Masked has achieved some renown, friendship, animosity, notoriety, love, hatred, or a combination of several within Alfheim and Mundis. They may have unlocked their Blessing or Curse, revealing an aspect of the inherent magic of their soul. Their travel, notoriety, or work may have impacted the fae and / or world around them either negatively or positively, or both. They have earned a title that passes amongst the fae, either boasted about proudly, or whispered, or spat. This title will remain with them for quite while, unless they someday become known by a new one…

Abilities / Magics Available for Unlock with NYX:

Small Companion Seal: Animal, Plant, Fungi, bacteria, etc. Any non-magical living being from Mundis that falls within the "Small" size can be sealed. ("Small" size ranges from the size of a single celled bacteria to the average house cat)

Blessing / Curse Lvl 1: Blessings can only be unlocked by the Seelie, and Curses can only be unlocked by the Unseelie. This type of magic is deeply personal to the fae that unlocks it, and appears randomly and unexpectedly, often taking the fae by surprise. Each Blessing and Curse is unique, with its own name and its own effects and powers. Blessings start off weak at Level 1, but are controllable and useful magics that the Seelie fae can practice and make more powerful. As the Blessing levels up, it grows more and more potent. Curses, on the other hand, start out very powerful but are completely beyond the Unseelie fae's control, often to disasterous effect both to themselves and/or those around them. As the Unseelie fae levels up and practices their Curse magic, they are able to slowly gain more control over it. For more information on Blessings and Curses, read HERE.

Lvl 4. Paige

Abilities / Magics Gained:

None

Abilities / Magics Available for Unlock with NYX:

1 Medium Companion Seal: Animal, plant, fungi, etc. Any non-magical living being from Mundis that falls within the "Medium" size can be sealed. ("Medium" size ranges from the size of a red fox to a timber wolf)

 

Transmutation: The Masked's fae form can be revised significantly or subtly. LORE NOTE: Their original form is more static and cannot be changed significantly. However, their original form CAN: appear to age, lose or gain weight, wither or grow (plant & fungi) and gain various disabilities or believable appearance that goes along with their character and experiences

Shifting Magic: Shifting magic can range very widely and has may different uses. There are a few different types

  • Shapeshifting: The Masked gains an additional shapeshifting form other than their Masked Shifting. Can be any animal or creature from Mundis or Alfheim, or its own new creation. Unlike Glamour, which can create the very convincing illusion of creating another form, Shapeshifting is where the Masked’s body actually changes into a new form. All Masked already have Shapeshifting between their original form and their Masked fae form, so each Shapeshifting magic learned opens up a new form that they can take. ALTERNATELY the Masked can learn to shapeshift one specific part of their body or form into something else.

  • Sizeshifting: The Masked can either shift their entire body from one size to another (no in-betweens) OR they can shift a part of their body to one size or another.

  • Colorshifting: The Masked can shift the colors of their entire body from one thing to another OR a part of their body from one color to another. NOTE: Their Mask can never change colors or appearances, and no shifting magic effects it, as it is always present somewhere on their form.

  • Weightshifting: The Masked can shift their weight from one thing to another.

  • Othershifting: Do you have a kind of shifting that doesn’t fit into any of these categories? Explain what kind of Shifting your Masked is trying to learn in the NYX Reserve and what it is called, and if approved within the lore, it will be added to the list.

Lvl 5. Adept

Abilities / Magics Gained:

Planeswalking Lvl 2: As an Adept, the Masked has grown skilled in Planeswalking. Can planeswalk freely between planes of Altheim and Mundis as many times per day as they like, provided they are healthy and not low on energy and magic.

Abilities / Magics Available for Unlock with NYX:

Large Companion Seal: Animal, Plant, Fungi, etc. Any non-magical living being from Mundis that falls within the "Large" size can be sealed. ("Large" size ranges from the size of a bear to a whale, T-rex, redwood tree, or any other large living being of Mundis)

Lvl 6. Knight

Abilities / Magics Gained:

New Title OR 2nd Title: Some fae’s titles stick to them like Sealing Amber; immovable, a mark of what they've done, what they’ve been. Some titles grow with the Masked, changing in meaning and connotation with their deeds, though the words stay the same. Others must be given new titles altogether, for the old stage of their life has passed away, and the old title feels altogether inadequate. Still others collect titles and names around themselves as numerous as the feathers that cloak a bird. As a Knight within their court, your Masked has gained wide renown of some kind. Their title may be replaced altogether with a new, more fitting one, or a second title may be added.

Curse / Blessing Lvl 2: 

Masked Seal: As a Knight, the Masked has gained enough power and magic to be able to attempt one of the most challenging and unstable types of sealing magic of all: Masked Seals, the very magic that a fae once used to seal their mask. With this ability, Masked characters can be created. You may use this Seal to create Masked characters for yourself, or you can perform the seal for another player and allow them to design the Masked character...or you can collaborate! Masked characters can also be shared between players if desired. The Masked Seal uses a great deal of NYX to perform, and drains and exhausts the Masked that performs it greatly, but it gives you free reign and creativity when making new characters to add to the game. Fairy Ring: An extremely powerful and difficult to perform seal that is a closely guarded secret of the few royal fae. Only those Masked that have Ascended to royal status have the power and renown required to perform a Fairy Ring seal. This is a special seal the binds a specific location in Mundis to the plane of Alfheim, keeping the two planes from shifting and drifting apart in that area. This stability enables the fae to build their own royal court within this area as an extension of the larger Court they belong to, Seelie or Unseelie. Each Masked can only maintain 1 Fairy Ring active at a time. If a new Fairy Ring is sealed, the old one dissolves. Creatures of Mundis can pass through the fae ring to enter Altheim in these areas, either accidentally or when invited by the fae that created it.

Planeswalking Lvl 3: Your Masked has mastered planeswalking like few fae have. Can planeswalk briefly to the Astral plane, a chaotic realm full of dangerous, ancient, eldritch and leviathan forces, where only the most powerful fae can enter. To all onlookers, the Masked will appear to vanish.
