ITEM CATEGORIES & TYPES
Items have very different roles and purposes in TheGreenGame depending on their type. Read below to find out more about the different kinds of items that can be obtained within the game!
UTILITY ITEMS
These types of items have a direct utility in TheGreenGame and in the unfolding story of the world. Can usually be traded, gifted, crafted, etc.
Adornments & Armor:
Items that are meant to be worn. Can be changed or swapped out between quests. May be protective, enchanted, or merely nostalgic.
Weapons:
Items that are used in battle. These can be found, scavenged, traded for, or gifted. The Fae have long believed that the strongest weapons are obtained through materials that can only be harvested under dangerous and trying circumstances, but perhaps this isn't fully true. Sometimes creativity, rather than foolhardiness, reaps great rewards.
Consumables:
Items that can only be used once, and are consumed for their effects. Include poisons, potions, and buffs. Can be traded for from merchants, or crafted from materials foraged in the field, Beware though, of concocting potions in ignorance. There are drab and humble plants, fungi, and stones in nature that are more deadly than a raging dragon.
Quest Items:
Items to be used in a particular quest, roleplay adventure, or activity.
TREASURES
Other items are valuable not because of their utility, but because of their symbolism and significance. Cannot be traded, gifted, or crafted, and are always tied to the character that earned them.
Gifts given from other Fae, from nature, from animals, etc, to the Masked as a reward for great aid or completing difficult tasks. Also includes the Sealing Resin obtained from successfully completing a Masked Seal. Can take many forms depending on type, and often, but don’t always, take the form of something precious or beautiful, such as precious metals, coral, jewels, crystals, bones, meteorites, etc. May be magical and have unusual effects. Can be worn by the Masked or kept in a special place. Cannot be destroyed, sold, or stolen, as Treasures are either permanently attached like Sealing Amber, or appear to have a mysterious magnetism to their owners, and tend to reappear and be refound by the Masked even if they are briefly misplaced or even thrown away. This can be a cause of great joy or grief, depending on the significance and memories brought by a Treasure.
Award:
These Treasures are rewards given due to achievements, or to acknowledge service to the world of either Mundis or Alfheim. Each is different and they take many forms. Can be worn, or kept by the Masked in a collection.
Sealing Amber:
The process of sealing a Mask is a difficult one even for Fae, and few Masked are capable of the immense outpouring of energy required to complete the task. When a Masked uses Sealing magic, a part of their own seal is rended, creating a wound in their body and soul that allows energy that had been sealed away to leak out. While most of this energy is used in the Sealing, a residue always remains. Like blood clotting around a wound and finally forming into a scab, and then a scar, the newly spilled energy acts like a resin, hardening into Sealing Amber. Sealing Amber can take on many forms, colors, and appearances, but early on, the Fae noticed its similarities to the dried, crystalline sap that forms around old tree wound, hence its name. The few Masked bear it often think of their Sealing Amber like battle scars; symbols of pride for the Mask they successfully sealed.
Another reason many Masked came to call this sticky, crystallizing liquid "amber" is due to its propensity to get impurities, debris, and even small insects and creatures stuck inside of it. Some Masked even believe that some insects are attracted to the sealing amber when it is still liquid and flowing, perhaps due to its powerful magical power, or the deeply resinous and sappy smell that it often gives of. Those insects or small creatures that fly too close become stuck despite, preserving them forever within the seemingly unbreakable surfaces of the Sealing Amber.
LORE NOTE: Normal fae do not develop Sealing Amber from sealing Masks, as they themselves are not sealed and therefore, develop no energy wounds that leak to form the Amber.
PLAYER / ACCOUNT ITEMS
These items aren’t tied to any particular character, but instead to the Player Profile of the person who earned them. These items acknowledge or commemorate a Player’s role or part of some aspect of the game or in service to the earth. These items cannot be transferred, sold, or gifted, and do not show up in the world of the Masked. Think of them as achievements: they are badges to YOU, to celebrate your experiences in the game, or a job well done!
Badges:
Usually awarded to players upon the completion of a quest, mission, or challenge, or else as recognition for achieving or experiencing something special within TheGreenGame. Some are always available to be earned, while others are only available for a short time, and can only be received by those who participated in the events they correspond to. A few Badges may have hidden effects, or unlock other types of items that link directly to the game and the characters within.
